Akin Ambulance is a for-profit corporation. The primary stockholders are Scott Akin and Johnny Akin, a son and father team. Scott serves as the president of the corporation, and Johnny serves as the vice-president.

Scott started in the emergency services as a 17 year-old volunteer firefighter. Several years of assisting emergency medical crews with cardiac arrests and motor vehicle accidents, and a severe need for volunteers in his hometown of Stockdale, inspired him to take an emergency care attendant course and to become certified at the age of 19. While in college, Scott traveled home on weekends and served as a volunteer with the Stockdale Volunteer Ambulance Service. In 1990, Scott accepted a position as Territory Manager for the family propane business in Gonzales. In 1992, Scott furthered his education by becoming an emergency medical technician, and in 1996, he became a paramedic. Though primarily employed outside of the E.M.S. realm, he served many volunteer hours for Gonzales County E.M.S., and was named volunteer of the year for his service in 1995.

In 2002, Scott was contacted by the private ambulance service in Seguin to assist with staffing problems. The owner and Scott were friends from previous E.M.S. classes, and the owner had family ties to Stockdale. During the course of his work, the owner offered to sell the ambulances to Scott. After 7 months of meeting with the owner, the lawyers, and the bankers, Akin Ambulance purchased the 3 ambulances and associated emergency medical equipment and office equipment which were owned by the previous service.

Johnny Akin has been associated with emergency services for the majority of his life. He has twice served as fire chief for the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department and has been certified several times for the emergency medical services. He was one of the original members of the Stockdale Volunteer Ambulance Services in 1975. Johnny is currently certified as an emergency medical technician. Both men are active in the day-to-day operations of the business, and you will get to see them as ambulance crew members.
